Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
